Javascript is a scripting language that is commonly used to add interactivity to web pages. Javascript can be applied in many ways, including mouseover effects, form validation and mathematical functions, among many others. Scripts written in Javascript are embedded into the html code and are interpreted directly by the user's browser. See also: Scripting language
JPEG
Joint Photographic Experts Group. Image format widely used on the Internet. The JPEG format is ideal for compressing photographs and images which contain a wide range of colours. It is possible to reduce the size of a JPEG file by selecting a lower image quality, however this can cause image degredation as a result of data loss. Possible JPEG extensions include .jpg, .jpeg and .jpe. See also: GIF
